Gladeside Park on Woodhead Drive now open

In answer to my previous post: yes. Gladeside park has opened!

I remain disappointed that the construction company were unwilling to open it earlier. I had worked with the Council officers to deal with possible insurance and safety issues.

I hope to get a pic of it soon!

Will Gladeside park finally open?

The park on the new development on Woodhead Drive and George Nuttall Close has had more opening dates than any other I have been aware of, so I am wary to celebrate yet but it looks like we may be there at last.

On Friday I received an email from the officer at the City Council who has been working to get this open with some very good news. The land has now been transferred from the developer to the City Council and can now be opened!

However... the developers are the ones who will be taking down the boards. This is supposed to be happening on Monday but watch this space.

I have been chasing both sides to get this sorted, so it will be a huge relief when it finally opens and gives residents a nice public open space.

Open space on corner of Woodhead Drive and Milton Road

The state of the open space just on the corner of Woodhead Drive and Milton Road was drawn to my attention in the summer holidays.

Since then I've got several people at the City Council to investigate and work towards turning this rather unpleasant space into an asset.

Last Thursday the City Rangers arranged a visit by the Community Payback team to cut back and tidy up the area and the result is stunning:That had been all overgrown and full of litter before last Thursday.

Today I had an email telling me that the land will soon be transferred into the ownership of the City. The next step is to find some way of making it even nicer.

So...

First, big thanks to the Rangers and everyone else for the help so far.

Secondly if anyone knows of similar projects elsewhere in King's Hedges we can out the Payback team on then the Rangers (and the team!) would be keen to know.

Finally, If you have any ideas for the area we'd be keen to hear from you. When the transfer is complete I hope to arrange a public meeting.

Nuns Way rec play equipment

Bad news on the Nuns Way rec repairs. I've just recieved an email from parks about the repairs.

The issue is that to strengthen the boards to avoid future repeats of the damage needs something called "trailer board". This is a special wood and has been on order from more than one local supplier for several months but has not yet come back into stock.

I am expecting another update soon. The equipment will be back in service eventually but I can't give a date yet. I will continue to chase...

St Alban's Rec - The witch's hat

An issue that has come up on I'm A Councillor... from local young people is the "witch's hat" on St Albans Rec. There is concern that this has been removed, and along with other councillors I chased up officers to see what happened.

The hat was taken down to allow a new safety surface to be put in below it. Apparently this work is finished and the hat should be returning soon.
