Easter Holiday Activity Days

I've been sent details of some provisional dates for activities for children and young people during the Easter holidays.

Whilst the details need to be confirmed the early indications are that two dates will be in the North Area:

• Friday 9th April - St Albans Rec/ Meadows community centre
• Monday 12th April - Brownsfield community centre, Chesterton

Other venues and dates are...

• Wednesday 7th April - Trumpington Rec
• Thursday 8th April - Coleridge Road Rec - wilderness themed
• Saturday 10th April - Jesus Green - sports/skating themed
• Wednesday 14th April - Cherry Hinton Hall
• Friday 16th April 11am-2pm- Lammas Land
• Friday 16th April 2pm-5pm - Ditton Fields - carnival themed

The events will vary but when we get more information we will let you know. Activities that are being proposed include a climbing wall, inflatables, music and art activities, dance workshops, street art workshops.

North Area Committee advance warning

Councillors on North Area have been sent the draft agenda for the March 4 meeting of the NAC.

As usual the meeting will take place at Manor Community College, Arbury Road, with planning at 6.30pm, and the main meeting at 7.30pm.

The planning items appear to be in West and East Chesterton, and one in Arbury.

The main agenda includes

• Feedback on the 2009 Youth Summit, including a report on actions resulting from it
• The traditional open forum
• The Police are coming in to look at the local priorities.
• And we'll be getting an update on the Environmental Improvements Programme.

In follow up to Mike's previous post, here's a quick biography about me!

I was born in 1982, which makes me the youngest member of the City Council. As a child I was much traveled, living in Japan, Jordan and Yorkshire!

As my day job I work for Amino Communications, who make set top boxes for digital television. I have previously worked for web services companies, and prior to that I was a sound engineer at Sheffield University Student's Union, working for various well known bands.

With classic bad timing I had to move from King's Hedges Road in the middle of the last election campaign, and now live in Strathcarron Ct at the other end of King's Hedges.

My interests on the Council are in Community Services, and in particular I am the Young Person's Champion.

Nuns Way rec play equipment

Bad news on the Nuns Way rec repairs. I've just recieved an email from parks about the repairs.

The issue is that to strengthen the boards to avoid future repeats of the damage needs something called "trailer board". This is a special wood and has been on order from more than one local supplier for several months but has not yet come back into stock.

I am expecting another update soon. The equipment will be back in service eventually but I can't give a date yet. I will continue to chase...

St Alban's Rec - The witch's hat

An issue that has come up on I'm A Councillor... from local young people is the "witch's hat" on St Albans Rec. There is concern that this has been removed, and along with other councillors I chased up officers to see what happened.

The hat was taken down to allow a new safety surface to be put in below it. Apparently this work is finished and the hat should be returning soon.

As part of Local Democracy Week, I (Mike) am taking part in I'm a Councillor, Get me out of here. This gives a chance for children in local schools to ask direct questions of five local councillors, and then vote us out one by one!

Manor School are among those participating, and I am keen to be put on the spot!
