Parkside Federation Academy Application

Well the first school I'm aware of has published a consultative paper on changing status and becoming the first of the Governments new Academies in Cambridge.

It's good that the school is undergoing a consultation, as one of the few (6?) outstanding schools in Cambridgeshire there is no requirement on the school to consult and yet the Governing Body and the Head have decided that a public consultation is the best way forward.

The door has now been opened - let's see how many follow.

The document sent out is available here.

3. Linton Village College
4. Godmanchester Primary School
5. Comberton Village College
6. Crosshall Junior School
7. Fordham C of E Primary School
8. Leverington Community Primary School

This is a discraceful move by the government and all local councillors should be campaigning with all their might against acadamies and free schools. They are anti democratic and will create and even more divided education system.

Tom you may be right but as so much of this legislation is still "up in the air" I think it would be better to wait and see exactly what the proposals are.

For example will the schools remain locally accountable (the Academy governing body is put together by the previous Governing body)? We will have to wait and see?

I was at the Briefing for Chairs of Governors on Academies (amongst other things) recently and I have to say the huge majority of Chairs in the room were against Academies.

Published and promoted by Andy Pellew, Mike Pitt, Neil McGovern, Simon Brierley and the Cambridge Liberal Democrats, all of 16 Signet Court, Swann Road, Cambridge.
